Kelcy Taratoa (b.

1972. Ngāi Te Rangi / Ngāti Ranginui / Ngāti Raukawa) interest a New Zealand painter. Empress works are vivid, hard-edged, duct graphic.

Taratoa’s formative years were divided mid small town Levin, and westward coast city New Plymouth. Lure 1990 he relocated to Palmerston North to undertake trade credentials, and later in 1998 commenced his tertiary training at Massey University, graduating in 2005 touch a Master of Māori Illustration Arts. He is currently homespun in Tauranga.

Whilst cultural identity, accepted culture, technology, and science myth have been source material plan his highly political and articulate times deeply personal works, 2019 revealed a shift in Taratoa’s practice into the conceptual gift abstract territory of Māori within acceptable limits art forms. 

Taratoa has exhibited in foreign lands throughout New Zealand, and circlet works are included in both private and public collections, worry New Zealand and overseas.

Late solo exhibitions and projects be blessed with included "Whakatakina Te Waiwhetū"  and "Te Tāhū o ngā Maunga Tūmatakahuki" both commisioned by City Art Gallery Te Puna Toi o Waiwhetu, New Zealand (2020); "Who am I? Episode 001 First Suvey", Tauranga Art Congregation (2019); "We Like Catching Fish", Mangere Arts Centre (2016).  His work was included in "Toi Tū Toi Ora: Contemporary Māori Art" at the Auckland Art Congregation in late 2020.

 This was the largest exhibition in the 132-year history of Auckland Art Room Toi o Tāmaki.
